How can I see a nutritionist if I am embarrassed to talk about what I eat?

When she asks her clients about what they eat, Kathleen's primary intention is to get a better understanding of what they may need nutritionally to be able to reach their particular goals. Kathleen jokes with clients that she has never seen a food record that compares with her high school diet!

Everyone experiences days that are nutritionally far from perfect. Everyone overeats sometimes, and many people have foods that they find difficult to eat in moderation.

Kathleen doesn't believe in “good” or “bad” foods. Food does not have moral value! Rather, food is fuel for your body, and should be kept that way.

Food is not a cause of guilt or shame - it can provide energy and vitality and the ability to lead a full and healthy life.

When you visit NutirtionWorks, you won't find judgment. The goal is for you to find a safe place where you can explore your goals and find ways to achieve them.

What can I expect from my initial nutrition consult?

You can also expect Kathleen to provide you with a realistic approach to your goal, and some practical strategies to get you started. You will be provided with meal ideas , as well as suggestions on how to easily incorporate the nutrition changes you need to make into your life.

You will leave the consult with a plan and written materials, and our office will follow up with you via phone or email before your next appointment.

You will get as much support as you need to achieve your goals!

How many times will I need to see a nutritionist?

The number of visits varies greatly depending on the client's goals and lifestyle. Some clients find that one consultation is all they need, while others may set up ongoing counseling. Individualization is key here. The number of visits is decided together with the client. It is generally helpful to have at least 2 - 3 consults so that success of your nutrition care plan may be evaluated and adjusted.

Will your visit be covered by insurance?

Some insurance plans cover specific nutritional counseling referred to as Medical Nutrition Therapy. Typically, weight loss with no other diagnosis, is not covered by insurance.

It is a great idea to call your insurance company and ask them the following questions:

  • Am I covered for nutrition counseling provided by a Registered Dietitian?
  • If so, how many visits am I entitled to?
  • Do I require a physician referral?

For some insurance companies, a physician referral may improve the likelihood of coverage.

We work with the following insurance companies: Regence, Aetna, Premera Blue Cross, Cigna and First Choice.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

Yes, we do have a 24-hour cancellation policy. The client will be billed in full for any no-show or cancellation within 24 hours of the pre-scheduled appointment.
